Day Twenty-six, Twenty-seven, Twenty-eight, Alaska Adventure

Hello again, We left Wa. this A.M. with Boise, Idaho in mind for this evening. We crossed into Oregon over the Columbia River which always looks so big. Umatilla army depot is located there. Then the sunset over the Cascade Range. We made it to Boise for the night. The next day on to Salt Lake City where we spent the night with Ron, Steph and kids. Had a great visit. Monday was the day to get to our house where we started from on 8-4-09. We arrived at 4 P.M. and had traveled 8393 miles. What a trip, a dream fulfilled, a great country to travel in. Day Twenty-four and Twenty-five, Alaska Adventure

Hi all, The last two days have been spent with our special friends out on Whidbey Island, Darrell, Ruth, Todd and Kyle Jacobsen. They live on Camp Casey, a retired military installation that now belongs to Seattle Pacific College. Ruth and Darrell both work for this college. We rode the ferry to Port Townsend and enjoyed a good walk and lunched at the Nifty Fifties Diner. The weather is perfect but cool. Anna and Todd enjoyed feeding the deer which roam freely here and Clyde and the guys caught up on sports and cars and hunting and other interests they share together. Of course Ruth and Anna enjoyed catching up on the kids and all the other things going on their lives. It was great for Anna to hang out in the kitchen with Ruth and visit, visit, visit. Tomorrow we go south toward Colorado with a stop in Boise, Idaho. See ya' Clyde and Anna ( notice worlds longest see-saw 75ft.) Happy 21st Birthday Todd!!!!

Hello all, We are glad to be back in the lower 48 and visiting friends here in Arlington, Wa. We are staying in the apartment of Mike and Fran Cole our good friends and Mom and Dad of our sons wife Torry. We will be here for about 4 days and then begin our final leg home to Colo. Mike and Fran are such great hosts and we do enjoy recalling good memories of our families together. We also got to see their son Ryan while here. Anna ran with Fran today for "High Tea", shopping and shopping and shopping, etc. Clyde went with Mike all over the area as he checked out water systems for local subdivisions that he oversees. Hi again, This is our last day outside the lower 48, it has been a great trip and something we are very glad we did. We started with a pic. of houses on a lake in Whistler. We thought the reflection was great. Anna is on an overlook above a river outside of Whistler. Then its more glaciers around the town of Squamish on hwy 99. We spent several hours in Horseshoe Bay which we really liked and had fish and chips in the park there. Horseshoe Bay is just north of Vancouver, B. C. After we got inside the U.S. it was clear enough to get a good look at Mt. Baker. Tonight we are in Ferndale, Wa. on I-5, yea!!!!!!! See ya', Clyde and Anna P. S. Happy B-day Kirk.

Good evening, Today we left Prince George and found this neat little church on the edge of a lake on highway 97. There is so much water up here we find ourselves taking a lot of pics of lakes and streams and waterfalls. Our pic is in front of the visitor center in the town of Williams Lake. Then on to more beautiful mountains on highway 99 which was a cut off to Whistler, B. C. which is where we will stay the night. We are in a quaint hotel built in 1914, it has been restored somewhat. Day Ninteen, Alaska Adventure

Hello to each of you! Wow, three days, no Internet, no cell phones and we actually survived it just fine. Our family was a bit concerned because they hadn't heard from us. We are fine and having a great time. This morning we awakened in Stewart, BC, Canada's farthest North seaport that remains open year round. The people are so very friendly and such pretty flowers everywhere. We did a bit of laundry, had breakfast, then headed toward Prince George. We have traveled 6,299 miles since leaving home on August 4. We have seen some incredible country. Some pretty remote roads and areas. Today we drove into Smithers, BC and were excited, we saw a NAPA store and Dairy Queen. We are back in the Internet and cell phone area. Note Clyde standing by the world's largest fly rod, located in Houston, BC, known as Canads's fly fishing capital with 3,000 miles of fishing. Also, the beautiful rainbow, reminds of God's promises. Day Eighteen, Alaska Adventure

Hello from Stewart, B. C. and Hyder, Alaska. The two towns are separated by a river and at the end of just one road in and out. We watched bear from a board walk but very wild area. The bear came in from all directions. Black bear came first but when the grizzly showed the black was gone!!! The grizzly's name is Monica, 10 to 14 years old and raised 3 cubs last year. Salmon were everywhere so eating was good. More beautiful scenery. Later, Clyde and Anna.

Hi finally, The service is so slow here ( Stewart, British Columbia, Canada) we will not try to send pics for now. Spent two good days in Haines, Ak. where we saw both black and brown bear feeding on the abundance of spawning salmon. Great little working town, then we crossed with our vehicle by ferry to Skagway, Ak. which is a very modern town compared to Haines. Spent a day there and saw bear again in the river eating. Great road into the Haines and out of Skagway. We arrived here in Stewart, B. C. last evening and went to see more bear in the river here eating salmon and playing in the water. The glaciers are awesome to see. Have been able to make some friends along the way and look forward to staying in touch with them. Will post pics as soon as speed increases. Thanks for reading. Hello from Tok, That sure is a big plastic fish!! but that is the way they look for real. We traveled from Valdez to Tok today in much better weather. Got to see more mountains and lakes and streams. The swan were beautiful on a lake known for moose but none there today. Not much in Tok to see but real good food at Fast Eddy's. Will head for Haines tomorrow. May not get all the way. Hi from Valdez, Alaska. We started out in Seward this morning after 2 days there. What a great place. Then back toward Anchorage to get to Valdez. What a ride today. We crossed the Alaskan range and then got in to the most impressive mountains with the glaciers way up there. Had very good seafood tonight at the best western. Will run around here tomorrow. That oil line pipe is 48 inches in diameter and 800 miles long! Until tomorrow, Clyde and Anna.

Hello to everyone! We are having a great time and seeing beautiful country. Today we went on a boat tour of Resurrection Bay, with Kenai Fjords Tours. They took us to Fox Island where they have a Lodge and Cabins if you care to stay the night. They served us an all you can eat buffet of Prime Rib, Baked Salmon, Corn on the Cob, Rice Pilaf, Salad, Drinks and Dessert. The tour was 5 hours and it was great seeing otters, sea lions, bear and many birds. Then after we returned from the tour, we hiked to Exit Glacier. It is so amazing how beautiful and massive these Glaciers are. We are staying one more night in Seward and heading to Valdez tomorrow. Until next time, Clyde and Anna

Hi from Alaska, today we enjoyed the Iditarod museum in Wasilla, and Anna got her pic with Mr. Ramie Reddington the son of the founding father of the iditarod. Then more beautiful Alaska and a glacier. Note the spawning of the coho salmon. (two in the pic). We went to Whittier and then to Seward where we will spend the night. Clyde and Anna. P. S. Day Ten, Alaska Adventure

Greetings, We left Fairbanks this morning, in the rain, and drove down to Denali National Park.
Here we enjoyed more beautiful scenery but the rain and clouds covered most of the mountains, especially Mt. McKinley. This happens very often, (2 out of 3 days) each summer. So we just came on down to Palin Country where we met a couple of hockey moms, had a hamburger, ate an ice cream cone, and now to bed. Later, Clyde and Anna

Day Nine, Alaska Adventure

Hi, we spent the day around Fairbanks and saw some great things, like this dog sled team of 10 that pulled a 600 pound 4-wheeler and rider 25 mph around a track. You can see they were ready to go. Then Anna on the actual sled that Susan Butcher won the 1987 Iditarod race. I'm just relaxing on the deck of Pikes landing, the place where the 1000 mile Iron Dog race (snowmobiles) begins and ends. 10,000 Sandhill cranes summer around this old dairy just outside of town, before going south to Texas and Mexico. Day Eight, Alaska Adventure

Hello again, Today we left Tok, Alaska and believe me (Clyde) I was instructed to take the shortest route to North Pole, Alaska!!!!!!!!! Anna was ready to celebrate there. Do a little shopping, a little wishing, and a lot of looking. It was a great place and we both enjoyed it. Along the way we saw the cow and calf moose. We were very close and it was great to watch the pair. The rivers are sooo big and wide here. We have a great B & B here in Fairbanks, Alaska for the night. Well, here we are at day seven and we are finally in ALASKA, hoorah!!!! 3000 miles later. What an incredible trip. Such big beautiful country. There are so many lakes, ponds and creeks. It has been a very special day. We met a couple from Julesburg, CO that own a great business (gas station, cafe & market) just inside Alaska after we crossed the Border. We have met and visited with so many nice people on our trip. We are staying the night in Tok, AK. Clyde and Anna

Day Six, Alaska Adventure

Greetings! First let me say, we did not have a good connection last night so we are sharing our yesterday today. We saw a lot of animals on our drive. First we saw two moose, one very small bull and one very small calf, a group of Stone Sheep and a Bear with two cubs, and buffalo. Watson Lake, Yukon is known as the sign city, people bring and install signs from all over the world. We stayed the night in Teslin, Yukon (population 411)very quaint, nice place. Day Five, Alaska Adventure

Big traveling day today. Left Edmonton, Alberta at 6 AM hoping to get to Ft. Nelson by evening. We did!!! With the time change and the almost midnight sun it is still daylight. Look at this herd of bull elk, what a sight. Next pic is downtown Dawson Creek where the Alaska Highway begins. We saw many miles of green trees, lush grasses, and deer. No big animals. We are spending the night in Ft. Nelson, British Columbia. Almost 600 miles today, we sure want to get to Alaska. Bye, Clyde and Anna.

Day Four, Alaska Adventure

We left Helena, Mt. this morning for the US/Canada border. We arrived at Sweet Grass, Mt. which is at the crossing and in need of diesel fuel. I talked to several highway workers and they said to go back 10 miles and get diesel. The border crossing at I-15 leaves a lot to be desired. One station with gas only and one station shut down. I drove by the last station and there was a pump (one pump) which seemed to be on. I swiped my card and it worked. We filled at a closed station. A first for us. Just a few questions at the border and we were off to Canada. Beautiful green farm country. We will spend the night in Edmonton, Alberta. Clyde and Anna.

Day Three, Alaska Adventure

We left out of Jackson, Wyoming this morning and enjoyed the beautiful Teton Mountain Range. We stopped often to view and take pics of the lakes and streams. We are so glad to be doing this trip at this time. Then on to Yellowstone park and would you know that as soon as we parked and walked to the site of Old Faithful, it erupted again just as it has for so long. Had lunch in the Park and we shared a table with a young couple. We told them we were celebrating 45 years of marrage and they said they were on their honeymoon trip. We shared our faith and spoke a blessing over them--it was special. Then we drove to Helena, Mt. where we will spend the night. Should be in Canada tomorrow. See Ya' Clyde and Anna.

Day Two, Alaska Adventure

Left Vernal, Ut and went by Flamming Gorge where we took this pic. We saw a doe with twin fawns, elk and many antelope. We arrived in Jackson, Wy at 2:30 p.m. got a motel and went shopping, go figure. Then went to Bar J Chuck Wagon Suppers for a great evening of fun and food. Off to Yellowstone in the morning.

We left home at 5 pm heading North (to Alaska) and stopped in Rangely, Colo. for dinner at Betty's Cafe. We will spend the night in Vernal, Ut. and start for Wyoming in the morning.
